Data
Two years, andwhat two yearscannot tell you
History is the binding constraint on every backtest and every strategy search here. Saying so is more useful than a date picker that reaches back to 2017 and quietly returns whatever it has.
What the ceiling actually means
Fewer independent windows than you think
Two years sounds like a lot until you split it walk-forward. Reserve an in-sample window long enough to contain more than one regime and you are left with a handful of out-of-sample pieces — and a handful of pieces is a small sample of a strategy’s luck, not a track record.
Regimes you have not seen are the risk
A dataset that contains one large drawdown teaches a strategy about that drawdown. The next one will differ. This is not solvable by more careful statistics on the same window; it is solvable by more history or by less confidence, and only one of those is available today.
A thin symbol is thinner than the headline
Depth is per symbol and per interval. A pair listed eight months ago has eight months regardless of the platform’s overall coverage, and a condition needing a long look-back cannot be evaluated on it. That is reported as such rather than silently skipped, because a screen that quietly drops half its universe looks identical to one that found nothing.
It deepens, and only where it can
Coverage grows over time as the platform keeps collecting. It grows fastest where the venue serves deep history and not at all where the venue does not — which is a fact about the venue, not a setting, and it is why the number here is "about two years" rather than a promise.
Questions about history
What if my backtest asks for more than exists?
You get what exists, labelled. The failure this avoids is a test that silently ran on a third of the window you asked for and reported a confident result.
Which intervals?
From minutes to daily, aggregated from a base interval rather than fetched separately, so an hourly bar is exactly the sum of its minutes and a condition means the same thing across timeframes.
Does the plan I am on change the depth?
Yes — history depth is one of the three things the ladder actually rations, along with screen frequency and strategy searches. It is what the platform is billed for, so it is what the tiers price.
Can I bring my own data?
Not today. Everything a backtest reads is the same series the screener and the live system read, and that identity is the property that makes a test predictive at all.
